The Miyazaki Jitokko, known as the highest brand of native chicken, has its roots in the indigenous Jitokko that has been raised in the area around Mount Kirishima for a long time (designated as a national natural monument in 1943). Due to its exceptional taste, it is said to have been offered to the Jito (local governors), and over time, it came to be called Jitokko. However, the slow-growing Jitokko, which takes more than twice the usual time to raise, is said to be unsuitable for meat production, and its lineage has been preserved in a small way among enthusiasts, making it a near-mythical chicken. Because it is a chicken that has been raised with care and time, please enjoy its satisfying flavor.
