The shirasu eel swims upstream to various river mouths flowing into Suruga Bay, including the Oigawa River. These shirasu eels are gathered and raised by the Shizuoka Eel Cooperative, which includes eel farms in Yoshida Town, and are prepared and grilled using traditional artisan techniques passed down through generations. This eel is free of any unpleasant odor and is said to be very delicious, known as the Supreme Eel.
