As you pass through the noren (curtain) in the back alley, a calm space with just a counter unfolds, allowing you to relax immediately. In front of you, the refrigerated case is filled with a variety of dried fish, and it's fun to choose your favorite fish to have it grilled. The hokke (a type of fish), sardines, and sea bream grilled slowly over charcoal are plump and fragrant, making them very delicious. The combination of komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach) and mekabu (the edible part of wakame seaweed) served as an appetizer is refreshing, lifting your spirits from the very first dish. The boiled shidoke (wild green) and a plate of grilled satsuma-age (fried fish cake) are also impressive, making you want to enjoy more sake. The gentle voices of the staff and the atmosphere enveloped in the aroma of charcoal are comfortable, making you want to linger longer.
