In a calm counter located in an alley of the Astronomical Museum, there is an immediately comforting atmosphere. The chef and the proprietress move efficiently while also engaging in friendly conversation, making it easy to relax even when dining alone. The skewers are fragrant and juicy, and I was particularly surprised by the size of the liver and tsukune (chicken meatballs). The satsuma-age (fried fish cake) is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with a sweetness that spreads throughout the mouth. I thoroughly enjoyed the flavors typical of Kagoshima, such as the chewy yam okonomiyaki, rich ankimo (monkfish liver), and kibinago (a type of fish). While slowly savoring the shochu lined up on the wall with hot water, I was completely satisfied with the nostalgic atmosphere of a traditional izakaya.
