In a setting reminiscent of an old folk house with a hidden atmosphere, you can enjoy exquisite eel dishes crafted by skilled artisans. The long-established "Ganso Motoyoshiya Main Store" where you can enjoy the specialty of Yanagawa, steamed eel in a wooden box. With a unique cooking method that steams the grilled eel and rice together, the eel is fluffy, and the rice is full of flavor yet has a light aftertaste. There are also set meals that come with white grilled eel and eel liver soup, allowing you to fully enjoy the charm of eel. This is a representative establishment of Yanagawa that you would want to visit along with sightseeing.

In recent years, I have visited many famous eel rice restaurants across Japan, each with different dishes and sauces. Personally, I prefer the ones that are heavily grilled, and the thickness of the meat is secondary.
The arrangement of the eel rice is very important, perhaps related to my personality that likes things to be neat. I feel that serving eel rice in a bowl is a bit too casual, while using a wooden box steamer looks more elegant.
This time, the eel rice is exactly in the style mentioned above, with pieces of eel neatly arranged in a red wooden box, and in the middle, there is a golden silk egg, which is very appetizing.
Each piece of eel is drizzled with an even amount of soy sauce, giving it a smoky grilled flavor. The eel is not very thick, but it is refreshing to eat, and the soy sauce is fragrant without being overly sweet, which is exactly my preferred type.
The price is not cheap; I ordered the 4800 yen option, while the most expensive set meal goes up to 8600 yen. Given the environment and presentation, it is still worth a try.
Eating delicious eel rice in front of the pavilion is quite relaxing and truly a great enjoyment.
