There are many varieties of takoyaki, and it's fun to customize them with different toppings. The creamy batter pairs well with sauces, soy sauce, and sesame oil, and the additions of fried pork fat and cheese are excellent. You can also enjoy variations in flavor with free toppings like aonori (seaweed), bonito flakes, mayonnaise, and pickled ginger.
