As I walked along the mountain path, an old folk house surrounded by autumn leaves appeared, and I couldn't help but stop in my tracks. After taking off my shoes and sitting by the irori (a traditional Japanese hearth), I was able to enjoy the warmth of the charcoal fire and the view of the garden at the same time, which was very comforting. The first dish that arrived was soba (buckwheat noodles) with sharp edges, a slightly gray color, and visibly fresh noodles. With each bite, the aroma rose, and the strong chewiness and lightness going down felt perfectly balanced. Dipping the noodles into the hot kenchin soup, the sweetness of the root vegetables combined with the mild broth created a gentle flavor. The soba dumpling dessert I ordered after the meal was hearty, and the rustic sweetness of the adzuki beans and soba kept me happy until the very end.
