A hidden gem to enjoy exquisite creative eel dishes

Ikesaku is located near Shizuoka Station and offers a chance to enjoy Kanto-style eel cuisine. The signature dishes, "Unagi Ume Don" and "Unagi Wasabi Don," are unique plates that can only be tasted here, featuring perfectly grilled eel and exquisite seasoning. The delightful combination with plum paste and wasabi allows for a refreshing way to enjoy eel, which can often feel heavy.

I went as soon as the restaurant opened, and soon the four tables for four and two tatami rooms for four were full with reservations, people who seemed to be regulars, and a family of tourists. Since I was visiting alone, I thought it was a good idea to make a reservation. In this day and age, it may be tough to seat together, but I felt that even if the tables were separated by an acrylic board, it would be easier for a single customer to enter. I was interested in the una nasadon (eel and rice bowl), but I was told that it was cooked with a less sweet sauce, so I decided to pass on it this time since it was my first visit. Instead, I ordered wasabi-zuke (pickled wasabi) and enjoyed the harmony of wasabi and eel. The wasabi-zuke went well with beer along with the curry-flavored bone crackers. The eel was plump and tender, and the sweet sauce went well with it. There was no tare sauce on the table, which was a little sad because I am always pouring tare sauce on my eel when it is available. Next time, I would like to check if sauce is available. I would like to check if they have tare sauce next time. It would be nice to have a bowl of unawa-don in the restaurant and take out una-don for dinner....
