Freshness is vital! Fresh Shirasu! On a holiday in June, I took a day trip to Awaji Island! Actually, I had passed through the island before, but never landed there. So, this is my first visit to Awaji Island! It's hot...but it's even more pleasant to drive along the seaside! This time, I left it to someone familiar with Awaji Island and let's go! First, we came to Watanabune Shokudo. We came here to eat a bowl of fresh shirasu (baby sardines)! The season for fresh shirasu has been lifted since April, and it seems to be available here and there! According to Awaji Islanders, there are a lot of restaurants that are very popular... I've eaten boiled shirasu before, but this is my first time to eat raw shirasu. The inside of the restaurant is just like a diner. What do you order? Bowl of rice topped with a bowl of fresh shirasu plus egg soup with shirasu: 800 yen Bowl of rice topped with a bowl of fresh shirasu plus egg soup with shirasu: 700 yen Aburame Tempura octopus and onion Dashimaki Tamago While waiting for the shirasu rice bowl, take some side dishes from the shelf. There is a microwave if you want to heat up the food. The aburaume, as the name suggests, is fatty and has a nice firm texture! Tempura is just as good as it sounds. The dashimaki is a little sweet and tasty. The girls shared a bowl of rice topped with plenty of fresh shirasu and egg soup with shirasu. There's more to come after this! As the description says, the bowl of fresh shirasu is plentiful! It's white when boiled, but gray when raw (lol). It's shiny, sparkling and beautiful! It is served with wasabi and ponzu (Japanese sauce made of vinegar and horseradish). The ponzu vinegar with a hint of sudachi (Japanese citrus fruit) is extremely tasty! It's very thick and sticky, but not in a bad way. There is no smell, and it is really delicious! And the egg soup is delicious! The dashi broth works well, and it tastes soothing... ♪ Yup! I am satisfied! Freshness is the key to fresh shirasu, so of course you should eat it in the morning! As time goes by, the taste is lost. When you arrive on Awaji Island, you should eat a bowl of fresh shirasu as soon as possible! But I feel bad for the store owner! I'm sorry I didn't eat one for each of us. m(__)m Now, where to next? feast samantha~♪♪
