So different from the walnut rice cakes in Osaka. Here's the rest of the review from my visit to Sendai The day I arrived at Sendai station, there was a Miyagi special products market going on. I was so glad that the timing was just right for us to be there! After looking around, my friend decided she wanted a walnut rice cake! So we bought some! Let's go back to the hotel and try it right away! The color is totally different from the walnut rice cake we eat in Osaka! Walnut rice cakes in Osaka do not use walnuts, but are named after the word "rice cake wrapped in red bean paste". It is said that edamame (soybeans) is the most common bean paste used to wrap the rice cake. Sendai uses walnut red bean paste, which is why it is this color. The rice cake is very soft even though it's been made for a long time! The walnut red bean paste is so sweet that you can't eat a lot of it! It might be different if I had it on a cold day... It's cold in Tohoku, so a little sweetness might be just right.
