Spending time around the irori (traditional Japanese hearth) in an old folk house feels as calming as returning to one's hometown. The sweetfish grilled slowly over charcoal and the local chicken skewers are fragrant, and I can't stop eating even the fluffy miso potatoes. Dishes like simmered burdock and pumpkin, and yuba tofu are also served, each with a gentle flavor that delights the body. The rice is cooked to perfection, and when enjoyed with handmade udon in a mushroom hot pot, the happiness level increases even more. Perhaps thanks to the far-infrared rays from the irori, I felt my heart warming as I continued to eat. Coupled with the warm conversations with the friendly couple who run the shop, I believe this place offers a special feeling like a hidden retreat.
