A traditional farmhouse café that soothes the soul with rural scenery

Ichouan is a farmhouse café nestled in the terraced rice fields of Kamiyama in the nature-rich city of Mimasaka. The handmade dishes and sweets are all simple yet heartwarming in flavor. You can enjoy meals made with local ingredients in nostalgic spaces like the irori (sunken hearth) and engawa (veranda). The atmosphere, which comforts visitors, offers a special time to forget the everyday and take a relaxing breath.

This shop, which has been renovated from an old farmhouse surrounded by terraced rice fields, offers a very pleasant view and atmosphere. A gentle breeze flows through the engawa (veranda), allowing for a relaxing time. Inside, the store retains the charm of the past with a dirt floor and an irori (traditional hearth), and the warmth of the wood stove is comforting. They offer dishes like fish curry, butter chicken, and aglio e olio, all of which are fragrant and satisfying. The power of the ingredients is clearly felt, with fresh shiitake mushrooms, organic garlic, and garlic shoots from their own farm. From the windows, you can see the terraced fields, and there’s a swing outside to play on, making for a soothing moment.
