Charyo Yamashina is a popular tea room in Fukuoka City, favored by both visiting foreigners and locals. It is a collaboration between the Asakura tea producer Yamashina and the popular dessert shop VERT in Tokyo, offering a place to enjoy high-quality sencha and exquisite desserts. The carefully selected tea leaves and aromatic desserts create a perfect pairing, making each visit a delightful experience with new flavors to discover.

In a hidden tea room located on the second floor of a building, you are enveloped in a calm atmosphere the moment you pass through the noren (fabric divider). The tea, carefully brewed over a U-shaped counter, can be chosen from eight varieties, and you will be amazed by the depth of its aroma and flavor. The lightly steamed sencha called Saemidori has a richness reminiscent of dashi, and I thoroughly enjoyed it even up to the third brew. The accompanying sweets, such as mizu-yokan (water jelly), are traditional Japanese confections that pair excellently with the tea. The desserts, including matcha Basque cheesecake and seasonal fruit parfaits, are vibrant and fill your mouth with layered aromas. Although the location is a bit hard to find, I was very satisfied as it allowed me to leisurely enjoy the charm of Japanese tea.
