A healing temple lodging rich in history and charm

Located in the heart of Mount Koya, Fugen-in is conveniently situated near the head temple of Shingon Buddhism, Kongobu-ji, making it accessible for many visitors. You can enjoy a comfortable stay with newly renovated facilities while preserving the traditional atmosphere of a temple lodging. The seasoning of the shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) is particularly exquisite, showcasing clever techniques that enhance the flavors of the ingredients.

The moment I stepped into the building that felt steeped in history, a quiet atmosphere wrapped around me comfortably. The monks were gentle in demeanor, and their guidance was easy to understand, allowing me to relax. The shared baths and washrooms were well-maintained, creating a welcoming environment for use. Participating in the morning service, the solemn chanting resonated, and it felt as if my heart was being cleared. The meals were colorful vegetarian dishes, and I was particularly impressed by the smoothness of the nama-fu (fresh wheat gluten) dengaku and sesame tofu. As I savored various flavors, my plate became empty, and before I knew it, I felt a sense of contentment.
