The vines are grown in Chualar loam soils underlain by stones deposited from the Arroyo Seco. The winds of the Salinas Valley extended the growing season and the fruit retained the natural grape acids.
Rich nose with a floral scent and notes of tropical fruits mixed with flinty mineral notes. The palate is fresh, showing a juicy, rounded, well-balanced mouthfeel.
The wine is delightfully intriguing with classic Riesling characters and a full-bodied palate to which many aspire. The nose is all Riesling, loaded with rich honey and gooseberry characters.
Lodi Petite Sirah, classic style. Dark, teeth staining - this wine is full of chocolate and really, really smooth. All grapes are from 50 to 60 year-old vines. Only 40 cases made.
The Domaine Chandon Pinot Meunier is cherry red with blood plum hues. Intriguing aromas of brown spice, nutmeg, truffle and smoked meats overlay notes of red currant and cassis. The palate is soft, long and complex. Flavors of plum and cherry complement a lusciously sweet and spicy balance.
Strawberry, cherry and terroir precede a creamy finish.
Cherries, blackberries and raspberries with a medium body and smooth tannins.
Black berry, plum, chocolate fill the mouth with a smooth toasty vanilla finish.
Abundance of dark cherry and black currant are balanced with fine tannins.
Currant and black berries intermingle with toasted walnuts and finishes with toasty French oak.
Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro the classic three-way of wine lush cherry, licorice, toasty oak
Deep, dark intense berry fruit explodes in my senses, a bit of a leap from the elegant, delicate characters I had come to expect. Black cherry, plum and ripe blueberry fruit leap out with subtle hints of coffee. Add to this a sprinkling of classic Cab Franc clove, nutmeg and anise spice, and this is a nose to behold.
The region now crushes almost three times more Syrah than Napa and Sonoma combined but has not yet been recognized for the efforts.
Soft and redolent of red currant flavors, the La Playa Carmenere Reserve nicely emulates Bordeaux elegance; ready-to-serve, this would be a nice choice with pan-fried chicken breast in a wine sauce.
This Sangiovese is the result of two top wine specialists Neil Empsom and Franco Bernabei. Full body and lush with a fruity flavor.
Petite Sirah is the Big Jim of wine grapes. Big and bold with a surprising complexity.
