History shaping Pauillac in 1453. After a 300-year reign of the Aquitaine region of the English (southwest/Bordeaux), the Hundred Year's War took place, after which many vineyards were formed. Among them, Chateau Batailley, the origin of the name - Batailley, translated "battle". In that year, the French conquered the lands of todays, Chateau Batailley, as well as the neighboring estates, Chateau Latour, Lynch-Bages, and Grand Puy Lacoste. The grounds of Chateau Batailley designed by Napoleons landscape architect in 1850. An iconic estate, measuring 140 acers of vines with an average ago of 40 years. Only 22, 000 cases are produced annually, containing 70% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot, and cabernet franc. The wine is aged in new oak for 18 months providing depth and structure. Gravel, clay, and sandstone dictate its profile. Once Chateau Batailley reaches 12 years of age, the peak maturity is present, at which only very little decanting is necessary. A wine with strongly increasing reputation and value for quality. A gorgeous perfumed nose with softening velvety tannins. A beautiful full bodied, classified 5th growth Bordeaux. Delicate minerality and complexity. Full of life and energy. Aromas of freshly sliced mushrooms, deep dark fruit giving it near perfect texture. Currant, leather, mocha, tobacco, and cocoa.
