Nose: A ridge of vanilla leads to a mountain of peat capped with citrus fruits and circled by clouds of sea spray. Palate: Sweet vanilla counterbalanced with lemon and lime followed by that surging Ardbeg smoke that we all know and love. Finish: Long and glorious; sea salted caramel and beach bonfire smoke. Overall: Precise balance, big smoke and non-chill filtered. This is why this is such a famous dram
Nose: The undiluted nose is deep and rounded chocolate caramels and barley sugar combine with dates, raisins and smooth sherry notes. Later, you find leather and linseed oil. With water the sweetness gives way to malted honeycomb, with flowering currants emerging through the smoky sweetness of a well-fired fruit pudding. Taste: Sweet, chewy and oily with a silky mouthfeel. The flavour is initially sweet, revealing fruit cake and treacle. This is followed by barbecued or honey roast food with the slightest hint of olives. Finish: Again long, both sweet and dry with honey, treacle and a trace of lint
Golden amber colour; sweet, smoky nose with hints of sherry and orange rind; spicy with nutty, orange and sherry flavours; long, warm finish
Nose: A hint of sea spray, but rich and plush, with punchy fruit and floral aromas. Palate: Enticing mix of creaminess and salinity that is rich and refreshing. Finish: Nice balance between the sprightly fruit and tangy sea-spray elements
Nose: Grain. Slightly floral, mineralic. Spirity, orchard fruit, malty, honey. Citrus develops. Palate: Light, floral, spices. Very smooth. Finish: Sweet, touch of oak and general fruit, oil
A 15 year old matured in American bourbon, Portuguese sherry and virgin oak. The whisky was then married in a Solera vat. Sherry, citrus - orange in particular, dry wood. Slight suggestion of smoke... Sherry, raisins. Fruitcake, spices, sweetness. Candied fruits, raisins, spices, Christmas pudding, oak takes over
Golden colour; caramel, vanilla and floral notes on the nose; very smooth and mellow on the palate with a hint of sweetness; long finish
One of the most famous malts in the world. Glenlivet 12yo has a soft smooth balance of sweet summer fruits and the floral notes of spring flowers
Bright pale gold; harmonious aromas of orange peel, ginger, vanilla and wildflower honey; medium-intensity with integrated alcohol; flavours of caramel, banana chips, dried apricots and baking spice and a long finish
Highland Park 12 Year Old remains one of the gold- standard malts for other distillery bottlings to aspire to. With a delicious sweetness (heather-honey is their preferred description) and a warming, silky mouthfeel, this is a whisky that never lets you down. "The greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whisky"
A favourite among whisky aficionados, the Highland Park 18 is a master of complexity and balance; the bright golden amber colour is followed by aromas of toffee, dried fruits, marzipan and fragrant smoke; the palate is rich, full of honey, and floral, peat flavours, while the finish is long, soft and round
Nose: Powerful smoke, sweet malt, wet turf, coal. Develops chocolate & cinnamon. Palate: Full-bodied, rich and mouth-coating. Delicious sweet gristy malt and rich peat, woodsmoke. The coal appears mid-palate. Finish: Very long, sweet and smoky, with the coal lingering longest
Lagavulin is a classic example of how smoke isn't a blunt instrument that covers everything in a fog, but an element that works with all the flavours produced in distillation and maturation. Lagavulin isn't 'smokey,' its peat moves into a weird territory of Lapsang Souchong tea and pipe tobacco, fishboxes and kippers. It smells of laurel and light cereal, but is always sweet. The palate shows more creosote, with hints of kelp and a little touch of iodine. Complex
This is the new no-age-statement Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the famous Speyside distillery of Macallan. Macallan's new range has done away with age-statements and instead focuses on the colour of the whisky. The concept being that the older the whisky is the darker it will be. This burnished gold spirit presents a lemon citrus nose, the orange peel and an interlacing sweetness that softens but doesn't eliminate the zest. A quiet note of vanilla is followed by dark chocolate - more assertive, yet not overly so - with a lingering floral and light oak notes. Citrus and boiled sweets rule the palate, along with hints of ginger and cinnamon, while soft oak tones reveal toasted apples. The finish is medium sweet, malty and slightly dry
An exciting new age statement expression from Macallan that's matured in a combination of American and European Sherry oak for a minimum of 12 years. Here, the proportion of American oak ex-Sherry casks is higher than in the 12 Year Old Sherry Oak, but no ex-bourbon casks are used as they are in the 12 Year Old Fine Oak release
The Macallan Triple Cask Matured 15 Years Old forms part of our Triple Cask Matured range; a series of single malt whiskies crafted in a triple cask combination of European and American sherry seasoned oak casks and American ex-bourbon oak casks. An expert marriage of these three distinct cask types, this is a sublime single malt with vibrant orange and chocolate flavours
The nose is rich and smoky. The medicinal notes are quite evident with notes of the sea; seaweed, tarry ropes. There are notes of cut hay and wood smoke rising with a gentle estery sweetness. The palate is thick and full. Notes of citrus with smooth sweetness. The smoke wafts with notes of seaweed. The oak is quite rich with grist and cereal and malt. The finish is of good length with fruit and dry oak
Bright medium-amber colour; malt, iodine, white pepper, underbrush and smoke aromas; creamy vanilla flavours, soft and smoky, lightly peppery; medium to full-bodied with an intensely smoky finish
Nose: Lightly sour fruit (cherries and raspberries), with milky coffee, chocolate touches and oaky vanilla. Palate: Oak focused, with cinnamon and nutmeg spice, hints of dried fruit, and lashings of vanilla. A touch of water opens it up to reveal a creamy mouthfeel as well as touches of linseed oil and woody spice. Finish: Medium length and warming, with oaky spice
Nose: Honey, peach, apple and wood. Cut hay. Palate: Medium, vanilla fudge, smoke, toffee, heather honey, oak. Finish: Good length, cut herbs, honeyed sweetness
Nose: A mellow, rounded nose, with a dry smokiness (a Johnnie Walker signature flavour) mixed with raisin sweetness. Palate: The first sip reveals a velvety mouthfeel, then an explosion of flavour hazelnuts, honey, rose petals, sherry and oranges. Subsequent sips reward you with more hidden secrets like kumquats, wispy aromatic smoke, sandalwood, tobacco, and dark chocolate. Finish: A rich and uniquely long and satisfying finish of smoke and pepper, ending with a glorious touch of spice
Complex nose and flavour of smoky peat and sweet vanilla; smooth lingering finish

It sees aging in used American oak barrels for 48 months, racking twice a year, and then further aging in bottle. The wine always has a sumptuous, velvety texture, with more bass notes in place of Ardanza's higher toned, red-fruited profile. Does Gran Reserva Rioja get any better than this?

Moueix's belief in dry farming seems to be paying off with stronger and stronger vintages, each successive year, and the 2014 is a sexy, opulent, layered, multidimensional wine with notes of red and blackcurrant, cedar wood, tobacco leaf , spice box and licorice. This 100 acre vineyard was planted in 1999 at the northern tip of the Osoyoos Bench. Planted to clones 99 and 100, this south facing vineyard site is a theoretical combination of the Santa Ynez Valley and St. Joseph in the style of wines that have emerged from it. Sustainably farmed, this vintage was cropped at 3 tons per acre. All destemmed after gentle sorting at the winery, this wine was fermented slowly at 25 degrees Celsius to fully maximize extraction of the abundantly ripe fruit. After fermentation was complete, the wine was finished in a mix of new and older French oak (50/50) for 16 months. This vintage has an incredible mixture of concentration and elegance. The palate is more austere than what I expected, somehow earthy and with some dusty tannins and a slightly bitter finish. A blend of Carignan, País, Malbec, Syrah and Portuguais Bleu

Rich black berries, cherry, cigar, and baking spice round out this complex palate from this iconic producer
ABV: 15%. This is the benchmark for syrah in Chile with smoked meat and berry character. Full body yet refined and beautiful. A cooler rendition of this. Very polished and textured tannins. Solid. James Suckling, March 2018

ABV: 13%. "2014 is a better vintage in Ribera del Duero than in Rioja, and the 2014 Alión shows it. Sourced from 130 hectares of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) in Ribera del Duero and possibly the most modern of the Vega Sicilia Group wines, it's silky, voluptuous, jammy, ripe and generous without being too much. The grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats, and the wine matured in new and second use French barrels for 12 to 14 months. It's quite ripe and powerful, yet balanced and with great freshness. The palate is medium to full-bodied with lots of fruit, juicy and showy"

Appellation: Pauillac. ABV: 14%. Firstly, simply labelled as Famille J-M Cazes Pauillac, it isn't immediately apparent that this is the third wine of Château Lynch-Bages. First created in 2009, it's made entirely from fruit grown on the young vines of the prestigious property. Secondly, it doesn't explain what a phenomenal vintage 2015 was. Respected critic and Master of Wine Jeannie Cho Lee went as far as to "compare it to 2005 and 2009 in quality", Decanter Magazine noted that "several châteaux have arguably made the best ever wines", and Steven Spurrier announced that "Bordeaux is back." So wines from top properties such as Lynch-Bages are not to be missed. A wonderful introduction to the property, this displays all the classic Pauillac character, but in a smooth early drinking style. Cassis, plums, cherry liqueur chocolates, star anise, leather and cedar; if this is the third wine, you'll soon be itching to try the first. Pauillac Château Lynch-Bages offers a quality to price ratio that's seriously hard to beat. Don't be fooled by its Cinquième Grand Cru Classé status, as Jancis Robinson notes: "If any château's positioning in the… 1855 classification highlights just quite how outdated it is then Lynch-Bages… would be the one. Rated a 5th growth in 1855, it has been for the last few decades a definite Super Second"

Appellation: Chateauneuf du Pape. ABV: 15%. Offers a chewy feel, but manages to stay velvety and lush overall despite the muscular layers of braised fig, melted licorice snap, blackberry coulis and fig paste. Full-bodied, rich and velvety yet ethereal at the same time, this incredibly long wine should prove to be a legend. Knowing the extensive tasting that was in store for me at this address, I scheduled an entire morning to go through the firm's offerings. The company's wines undergo unusually long élevages, which means there are always multiple vintages of each wine to taste. It does provide an ideal snapshot of the various appellations/vintages. For my visit, Philippe Guigal and the winemaking team prepared prospective samples of the wines that were not yet bottled. The big news here is the acquisition of Domaine de Nalys in Châteauneuf du Pape, which immediately becomes a property to watch

Appellation: Bolgheri DOC. ABV: 14%. The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso is mostly Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot
Appellation: Maremma DOC. ABV: 14%. Nectar Dei, our super-premium wine, was christened after the ancient name of the Nittardi estate discovered in a document from 1183. As is the tradition of Nittardi, the first bottles of this new wine were presented to Pope Benedict XVI just as Michelangelo Buonarroti did in the 16th century when he, the owner of the estate at the time, paid tribute to the popes Julius II and Leo X by presenting them with, to use Michelangelo's own words, the genuine wine of Nittardi. This persistent version builds to a long fruit-, spice- and mineral-tinged aftertaste. Combines power and finesse, and should age beautifully. Sangiovese. Best from 2017 through 2027"

The bouquet is gorgeous and delineated with wild berry, tangy spice, crushed mineral and forest flower. Yet, the wine's color is dark, brooding and austere. The wine offers exuberance and energy in the mouth, thanks to its balanced acidity and seemingly never-ending finish
Appellation: Toscana IGT. ABV: 13.5%. Another stunning wine, the 2015 Tenuta di Trinoro wraps around the palate with stunning depth and power. Today, the flavors are incredibly primary, but it is the wine's textural depth and nuance that impress. The 2015 boasts tremendous concentration, but there are no hard edges, just pure fruit and voluptuousness to burn
Appellation: Bolgheri DOC. ABV: 14.5%. 2016 is one of the best vintages ever in Bolgheri, classic in style and balanced.
