In our quest to produce the most delicious rosé possible, we acquired some beautiful Grenache from a vineyard near Gilroy. This Grenache makes up 45% of the final blend and all of it was picked specifically for this purpose, so was picked earlier than we would for a red wine. The next most substantial portion of the wine is old vine Carignan from the Wirz Vineyard. All of these grapes were whole cluster pressed, like we would to make a white wine
This vineyard is in the tiny Ben Lomond Mountain AVA, an appellation within the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA that is only a few miles from the Pacific ocean at over 1000 ft. The vines were planted in 1990 in a rare white sandy soil called 'Zayante'. We harvested just under 1-ton of Chardonnay grapes on September 3, and whole cluster pressed them immediately to a tank to cold settle for a few days. The juice was then racked to seven used French Oak barrels for a long, cold natural primary and secondary fermentation
The Old Corral Pinot is sourced from our Certified Organic Estate Vineyard. Three separate hillside blocks are used to produce this wine with one planted to Swan clone and the other planted to Mt. Eden clone. All three of these blocks are planted in very rocky soil of clay and sandstone. 94 Points-Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 92+ Points- Jeb Dunnuck, 91 Points- Rusty Gaffney, PinotFile
Rodnick.farm is located on the western slopes of the Gabilan Mountains at 1600-1900 ft. This area experiences a high desert climate along with influences from Monterey Bay. This combination creates an ideal growing climate where extreme day to night temperature swings allow for a longer, more concentrated maturation of grapes. The unique soil combination of limestone and decomposed granite provides excellent drainage required for deep roots and healthy vines. For this wine we utilized 100% whole clusters and fermented 11 months in neutral 550 liter puncheons
From the highest vineyard in Monterey County, at 2,200 feet in the Gabilan Mountain, planted on very steep hillsides in decomposed granite soils. In 2016, one part of the Casita block at Coast view was slower to ripen being in a swale with more vine growth. We picked it a full 10 days later than the rest of the block and fermented it 100% whole cluster and it was this lot made the bulk of this wine. 94 Points- Antonio Galloni, Vinous; 94 points- Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast. 94 Points- Jeb Dunnuck
