These are moist and elegantly sweet dried plums from Taiwan. Traditionally a children's snack, they have recently become quite popular in Japan due to the health benefits of plums. Among them, the dried plums from Taiwan are characterized by their moist and refined sweetness, unlike those from China. They do not use preservatives or bleaching agents, which is why freshly dried plums may appear slightly dark. As time passes and the drying progresses, the sugars and umami components, such as amino acids, inside the plums rise to the surface, making them appear whitish. In addition to eating them as is, it was previously common to add rock sugar when drinking Shaoxing wine for sweetness, but recently, adding dried plums has become trendy. They are also popular as a snack with Taiwanese tea.
Even those who are not good with milk should definitely give it a try! Some may find it easier to drink than regular milk.
