Kanesen is a traditional specialty store for sasa-kamaboko, established in the 7th year of the Taisho era. It uses plenty of fresh seafood from Kesennuma, characterized by its fluffy and bouncy texture. The cheese sasa-kamaboko that melts in your mouth and the richly flavored shiso sasa-kamaboko are unforgettable once you try them. It is very popular among locals and makes a perfect souvenir or gift.

There are various types of sasakama and fish cakes lined up, making it fun to choose. The plain sasakama has a gentle fish aroma that spreads, and it has a bouncy texture when you bite into it. The cheese-filled one is rich and has a delightful melting sensation when combined with the kamaboko. The one with shiso has a nicely balanced aroma from the chopped leaves, perfectly complementing the gentle dough. The five-vegetable fried one has the umami of burdock and carrots, and its soft texture makes it hard to stop eating. The souvenirs are firm in elasticity, with a hint of sweetness, and I was satisfied with them.
