You can choose from local specialties from all over the country in one place, and it's enjoyable just to look at them. There are many varieties, from snacks to accompaniments for meals, and it's nice to be able to buy according to your mood. Nagasaki's chawanmushi (savory egg custard) is simply steamed at home, and the aroma of the dashi spreads, providing a satisfying creamy texture. There are also steamed sushi available, which instantly brightens up the dining table. The sweetfish from Lake Biwa, simmered with sansho pepper, is tender, with a refined bitterness and aroma that can be savored slowly at the table. If you prefer something sweet, it's also nice to eat chilled dorayaki (red bean pancakes) filled with cream, allowing you to enjoy the texture of the batter.
