There is a retro atmosphere that feels like stepping into a Showa-era food stall, and I felt excited the moment I walked in. The watercress ohitashi that was served immediately after I sat at the counter was crunchy and had a gentle flavor that was delightful. The specialty oden was well-soaked in a slightly sweet broth, and no matter which ingredients I chose, such as lotus root or beef sinew, a deep umami flavor spread throughout. The grilled gyoza had a crispy skin and juicy filling that were perfectly balanced, making me want to order more. The grilled chicken skewers and teppan grilled offal, which I ordered with salt, were also fragrant and had a robust flavor that paired well with beer. I was able to leisurely enjoy a variety of dishes in a traditional atmosphere, making my night in Okaido very fulfilling.
