A Chinese restaurant boasting surprising volume and deliciousness

Hidden gem in Iwaki, Saihou offers Chinese cuisine that is both hearty and delicately flavored. The shumai, in particular, is a juicy and creamy dish loved by many. The lively interior is bustling with families and takeout customers, and the attentive service is another highlight. Be sure to enjoy the exquisite Chinese dishes crafted by skilled chefs in the spacious kitchen.

The menu is very extensive, offering choices of chicken, pork, beef, vegetables, tofu, noodles, rice dishes, and even dim sum. There is a warmth from the handmade dishes, and the natural umami makes it easy to keep eating. The shrimp chili has a nice bounce to the shrimp, and the seasoning is strong and delicious. The stamina noodles are packed with stir-fried pork, bean sprouts, cabbage, wood ear mushrooms, and garlic shoots, which pair well with the soy sauce-based soup. The dan dan noodles have a stronger soy sauce flavor than sesame, and the balance of umami and spiciness from the dried shrimp and pickled mustard greens makes it easy to drink. The shumai is a specialty, and I’m glad it’s served in a steamer.
