A beloved Japanese restaurant in the local area

Kappo Osakiya is a serene Japanese restaurant located near Kojimadai Station in Niigata. The restaurant's signature dish, katsudon, is a generous serving of tender pork cutlet piled high. The sauce, which enhances the sweetness of the onions, pairs perfectly with the rice, creating an unforgettable taste that lingers long after your meal. This establishment has been cherished by the community for years, making it well worth a visit.

The calm Japanese-style interior near the station allows for a relaxed experience with a counter and raised seating. The katsudon I ordered had a large cutlet that was so big the lid couldn't close, and I was excited just by its appearance. The thick cutlet was surprisingly tender, and the coating offered both a fluffy part that absorbed the sauce and a crispy part to enjoy. The slightly sweet broth and the umami of the onions soaked into the rice, making it impossible to put down my chopsticks until the end. The miso soup with chunks of shellfish and the pickles with just the right amount of salt were also carefully prepared, providing a comforting taste. With a quiet atmosphere and delicious set meals, I felt it was a satisfying place to casually stop by.
