A White Warehouse Café Famous for Freshly Fried Local Shrimp Tempura

Garandou is a charming café with a striking white-walled warehouse exterior located along the Kunisaki Peninsula. Inside, the high ceilings create a pleasant atmosphere, and the café is renowned for its freshly fried kakiage donburi made exclusively with small shrimp from the Buzengai Sea, featuring a delightful crunchy texture and subtle umami flavor. The miso soup and salad are also carefully prepared, delivering the local 'everyday deliciousness' to travelers. With a great selection of coffee and desserts, it's the perfect spot for a break during a drive.

I was drawn to a stylish building that looked like a white warehouse and casually stopped by. Upon entering, the high ceiling and spacious café space made me feel relaxed. When I ordered the specialty dish, the cape tempura rice bowl, a mountain of small shrimp tempura was served on top of the bowl. The shrimp, fried with their shells on, were fragrant, and the crispy texture combined with the light flavor of the meat was outstanding. The accompanying miso soup, salad, and pickles were all made with care, and I was satisfied until the very end. I was extremely pleased with this bowl that was packed with local charm.
