A specialty store where you can savor Toyohashi's famous chikuwa

Yamasa Chikuwa Toyokawa is a specialty store offering Toyohashi's renowned chikuwa. Carefully kneaded in a stone mortar, the flavor, adjusted by artisans to achieve the perfect saltiness, is exceptional—once you try it, you won't be satisfied with any other chikuwa. The unique texture of the grilled skin is a hallmark of Yamasa, allowing you to fully enjoy the rich flavor of the chikuwa when eaten as is.

The showcase is filled with classic chikuwa and seasonal fish cakes, and just looking at them is exciting. The chikuwa has a firm texture, and the more you chew, the more you can taste the umami of the fish. The fragrant skin is thin and hugs the tongue, providing a distinct mouthfeel. The crab kamaboko is packed with crab meat and has a pleasant texture. The bean chikuwa is bite-sized and easy to snack on, making it hard to resist reaching for more. It's a shop that feels historic, and the staff were polite, making for a pleasant shopping experience.
