As we approached our 1500th batch in San Leandro, the brewers decided to attempt something different. They set out to make a pale ale with a clean, stripped down malt bill and plenty of late addition hops that would give the beer huge flavors and aromas of bright citrusy American hops without overwhelming the balance with bitterness. The resulting beer packed the aromatic and flavorful hop punch of a West Coast-style IPA at a very easy drinking 5.5% ABV. The brewer and the people loved it. Now 1500 is a Drake's flagship beer
An English-style Extra Special Bitter, or ESB. This deep copper brew has a pungent hop aroma from East Kent Golding, but delivers a distinctly malty flavor from Crystal and Chocolate specialty malts
Aroma Coma IPA is a force of nature that'll leave you in a hop-induced daze. We start with a few handfuls of rye and caramel malt, then we dry-hop it twice with a massive amount of Citra and Equinox for an absurdly aromatic experience. Keep cold, drink fresh, and inhale aggressively
This limited edition beer started as last year's Jolly Rodger Imperial Coffee Porter that we aged in freshly emptied High West Rye Whiskey barrels. After some exuberant sampling, we picked out our favorite barrels for this final blend-and saved a few for later. We love the complex flavors of oak, rye spice, espresso, and chocolate-dipped figs. Round, warming and comforting, it is meant to be enjoyed now or stored in your cellar for a few years
A robust Porter. Drake's Black Robusto has the roasty character of a true porter but is stronger in alcohol (thus "robust'). Dark black in color with chocolate maltiness from seven different types of barley and spicy herbal hop character from Willamette hops
An Imperial (or Double) India Pale Ale, Denogginizer is a big, bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Summit hops and a touch of CTZ and Cascade. Crystal and Munich malts add color and flavor and help balance out the hop assault. Denogginizer is also Drake's most powerful regular offering, at a whopping 9.75% alcohol by volume! Hold on to your head
Comprised of 2-Row malt, roasted barley, and a select blend of dark malts and served on nitrogen. Enjoy the creamy mouthfeel, medium body, and the roasty, chocolate flavors!
Suspended on wire perches high above the brewery, our guardian owls screech faithfully night and day. Named for these noisy, electrified decoys, the Electric Owl is like our daily wakeup call. A luscious blend of nutty, roasted malts from Patagonia paired perfectly with El Meridiano Tolima- a bright, single origin Columbian from San Francisco's Sightglass Coffee- to add touches of rich caramel, tangy orange zest, and toffee sweetness
An Americanized version of a North German style pils. Hop forward with a dry, crisp body, this beer exhibits floral and spicy notes derived from the use of Vanguard, a domestic Noble hop. Regarded by the staff as "highly crushable"
A classic, Bavarian-style wheat beer brewed with a combination of malted wheat and barley, and fermented with a German yeast strain that delivers notes of banana and clove. The brewers skip the filtration step for that nice, cloudy appearance and great, unfiltered flavor
Drake's flagship beer! A "West Coast" interpretation of an India Pale Ale. Copper-colored from additions of light Crystal malt and Honey malt which carry the malt weight of this hop bomb. Aromas of pine and grapefruit are delivered from the abundant Chinook, Cascade and Falconer's Flight hops
For more than two decades, we've stuck to this tradition of brewing a totally new beer every year for Jolly Rodger. Our Brewmaster, John Gillooly, describes this year's version as a Transatlantic Winter Warmer- yeah. We used a hearty concoction of specialty malts, candy sugar and an especially aromatic yeast strain to brew this big, tasty ale. Jolly Rodger 2016 warms your belly with comforting notes of caramel, baking spice and sun-dried raisins
Kick Back is an easy-going, hoppy session IPA brewed with some of our favorite new-fangled hops for luscious aromas of stone fruit and tangerine. Unwind with a Kick Back IPA at the end of your adventure, and we'll make a donation to the East Bay Regional Parks Foundation to support trail restoration
Inspired by the traditional tart wheat beer from Berlin, this beer puts a twist on a standard hefeweizen with a subtly sour yet refreshing complexity
Dealership Bar Lead Amber Bacon has been waiting to make a beer to live up to her name, so for Flocktoberfest this year we are making a Smoked Amber ale. Sweet notes of cherrywood smoke are balanced and enhanced with a variety of toasted and caramelized malts. A perfect compliment to wood-fired foods
With bourbon oak chips and vanilla
The shit-storm that has been this Election Year lead us to pay homage to the film Idiocracy and how scarily close to real life it has become. So, in honor of Election Day, we're throwing back glasses of Brawndo: The Thirst Mutilator, an Orange Gose
American Stouts are higher in alcohol and hops than their Little English brethren, with the higher hopping rate also giving the impression of greater roastiness. Our partners in crime on this, Brian Buckingham and Patrick (x) teamed with Head Brewer DeVonne Buckingham to create a ProAm brew that we are submitting to the Great American Beer Fest, and we think it's a winner. Malt complexity is enhanced with a variety of caramelized and roasted malts, and the whirlpool hop addition of Chinook, a classic American hop, is supplemented with EXP 06300, a unique hop that features chocolate and citrus aromatics. Rye adds undertones of spice, and adds viscosity to the mouthfeel
Our Oatmeal stout combines deep toffee notes with rich chocolate and roasted coffee aromatics, with a soft viscosity from the oats. An addition of experimental hop 06300 adds a hint of orange peel to the aroma profile
A classic schwarzbier balances the roasty bite of highly kilned black malt with the light sweetness of a classic German Vienna malt. Hops are kept out of the way so the delicate malt balance can take center stage. Maltiness is enhanced by our house lager strain, which leaves great body and mouthfeel post-fermentation
Spiced imperial porter
Amber-red ale with a light body but surprisingly intricate malt flavors. Also features aromatic complexity driven by the varied malt roasts and a traditional British ale yeast that features notes of honey and fruit (particularly apple and pear), overlaid with light citric/pine aromatics from a sparing addition of Cascade hops to the whirlpool.
