During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period of China, the capital of Yue (around 600 BC to 334 BC) which gave birth to famous historical episodes such as 'sleeping on sticks and tasting gall' and 'Wu and Yue in the same boat', is now known worldwide as Shaoxing City, the hometown of Shaoxing wine. The name Gou Yue Longshan originates from the mountain (Fu Shan) where the ancient Yue, led by the dragon (meaning king), was established. The stone monument of Gou Yue Longshan is located at the entrance of Yuewang Terrace in Fushan Park in the central part of the city, resembling the back of a dragon. Over 800 years ago, the fishing spot beloved by Emperor Zhangzong of the Jin dynasty was named Diaoyutai. Developed as a garden for the imperial family by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty, this place was opened as Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in 1959 on the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, with the strong support of Prime Minister Zhou Enlai. Since then, it has hosted various dignitaries including Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan, as well as heads of state from around the world. The Shaoxing wine served here is Gou Yue Longshan, which has impressed many VIPs and proudly represents China's prestige along with numerous national treasures and artworks. This Shaoxing wine is also served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing, over 200 Chinese embassies and consulates worldwide.
