The Faro denominazione sits in one of Sicily's prettiest countryside, located at the extreme north-eastern tip of Sicily separated from Calabria and the Italian mainland by the Messina strait. If Faro and its wines are starting to garner interest, a lot of the merit must go to small quality estates like this one. Bonavita is run by Giovanni Scarfone and his father Carmelo, with the aid of consultant Vincenzo Angileri. Bonavita's north-exposed vineyards look out towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, differently from Le Casematte and other Faro estates that look towards the Ionian sea and whose vineyards have mainly south/southeastern exposures. At Bonavita, there is a mix of mainly sandy tufa or clay-calcareous soils, and the area is quite rainy and very windy compared to other parts of Sicily. Bonavita owns 2.5 hectares planted to Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nocera"

This wine is a great discovery for each wine lover. I tasted a small selection and directly becomes clear that this wine is one of those magical treasures of Italian viticulture. The variety is Carignano. It offers aromas with cinnamon and clove and a wealth of fruit, plums, very abundant subtle fruit, hints of herbs and all with a little inch of minerality and such length! The wine is intense, fresh, and the present tannins do not disturb. This wonderful wine comes from what is probably Europe's largest concentration of engrafted pre-Phylloxera vines on the sands of Sulcis. Carignano del Sulcis DOC is produced only in southwest Sardinia and on two local islands, San Pietro and Sant'Antioco. Where Carignan in France is mostly a grape used for blends and is considered of modest importance, here, in the warm sunny fields of Sardinia's southwest this grape offers wines with great potential

Grifalco is an excellent producer of Aglianico del Vulture owned by the Piccin family, who were originally wine producers in Tuscany but decided that southern Italy, Basilicata in particular, was more promising. I think they're right. Vulture is indisputably one of the best appellations in southern Italy, and I am delighted to represent this excellent producer Sourcing grapes from four different vineyards, Grifalco is the flagship wine of the estate, representing in their minds what Aglianico del Vulture should be and is capable of. Notes of blackberry, black cherry, licorice, and wild herbs. Well-balanced, with firm, sweet tannins and juicy acidity
This blend of 50% Negroamaro, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Primitivo offers a bright, zesty nose of mixed berries alongside lifted pepper and graphite accents. The Gelso D'Oro is a converted wine in purity by pressing the only native grape Uva di Troia, among the oldest of the Apulian tradition. The harvesting is done by hand, early in the day to maintain low temperatures of the grapes, and to prevent the onset of fermentation. After malolactic fermentation, it is left to mature for the most part in oak barrels for eight months, then bottle aging gives the 'final harmony and the wide pleasantness. Deep ruby red, has aromas of black berry fruit with cocoa successive tones, cinnamon, cumin and juniper. In the mouth, it is enveloping, full-bodied tannic, with softened and velvety tones and balanced and long finish
