It is characterized by being classified into finer categories based on the ingredients, production area, and manufacturing methods. French 'Cognac' and 'Armagnac' are well-known types of brandy worldwide.

Calvados refers to an apple brandy produced in the Calvados department of the Normandy region in France and its neighboring areas. Apple brandy is distilled from fermented apple wine (apple wine or cider). It is mainly produced in northern France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and in France, it is called eau-de-vie de cidre.

The name Bourbon originates from the fact that certain regions of Kentucky made significant contributions during the American Revolutionary War with the support of France, and it is named after the Bourbon dynasty of France, leading to the name 'Bourbon County'. Additionally, only those that meet legal definitions, such as containing 51% corn and being aged in new charred oak barrels (among other requirements), can be called Bourbon whiskey. While it is commonly referred to as 'Kentucky Bourbon', it can also be called Bourbon in other states.

Tennessee whiskey from the state of Tennessee in the United States is required to be filtered through charcoal made from sugar maple wood, a process known as 'charcoal mellowing.' It is classified as bourbon, but is distinguished as Tennessee whiskey due to its unique production method.

The production method is similar to bourbon, but the ratio of ingredients is 51% or more rye. Therefore, it is characterized by a spicy and dry flavor, and it is a whiskey produced in the United States and Canada.

The condition is that more than 80% of the raw material is corn, and it is distilled to an alcohol content of 80 percent or less. There are no rules regarding the aging period, and it can be shipped without any barrel aging.
