In the early Edo period, Masayuki Hoshina, the lord of Takato Domain, served soba noodles with 'Takato Spicy Radish' and grilled miso as a hospitality dish of Takato Domain, which was also presented to the shogun. The 'Takato Soba,' loved by both the lord and the common people, was later passed down as 'Takato Soba' in various regions of Fukushima Prefecture by Masayuki, who later became the 'founder' of Aizu Domain, and is counted among Japan's famous soba. At the autumn festival held in November at the site of Takato Castle, new soba can be enjoyed along with the revived 'Takato Spicy Radish.' Additionally, at the soba shops scattered throughout the city, hand-made soba made from local flour can be enjoyed at any time.
