[A rare dish that uses buckwheat grains] 'Buckwheat Rice Porridge' is a traditional dish from the Iya region of Tokushima. The Iya region is surrounded by high mountains, making it unsuitable for rice cultivation, so buckwheat was grown instead. Buckwheat grains are made by boiling the buckwheat seeds, removing the husks, and then drying them. It is said that the origins of 'Buckwheat Rice Porridge' date back to the Heike clan, who, after being defeated in the Genpei War, fled to the Iya region and created this dish as a New Year's meal to remember their former capital.
