This was my first trip to Fukui, and I made a reservation at the counter for dinner on the first day. I actually wanted to go with the full omakase, but since it was my first time in the area and my first time at this restaurant, I didn't have the courage to do that, so I ordered the ¥5,500 course, which was very satisfying. The alcohol orders were done through a tablet with clear pricing, and the service from the staff was quick and polite, making for a wonderful experience. Thank you for the meal.

The salt liver and the moon-viewing tsukune were very delicious. The sake was reasonably priced, and I think it shows considerable corporate effort to be able to offer it at this price. I will use it again when I visit Fukui.

Watching the skilled craftsmanship at the counter makes the meal even more exciting. The tofu with a walnut aroma, combined with sea urchin and wasabi, creates a happy mood right from the start. Each piece of the sashimi platter is fresh and the umami spreads throughout. The dish of boiled white clam has a gentle flavor, allowing the taste of the clam to come through smoothly. The black throat sea perch was beautifully fatty and incredibly delicious. I also enjoyed the local sake, handmade soba, and spicy grated daikon soba, which justifies the Michelin rating.

This is my favorite restaurant that I used to visit during my time in Fukui for work. This time, I came here privately with a companion. The interior is bright and spacious, creating a strangely calming atmosphere. I enjoy a blissful moment at the larger counter, savoring the dishes and drinks. The staff's service is pleasant, and what surprised me even more was the sight of the head chef personally seeing us off until we were out of sight, which was moving. This is a restaurant I want to visit again when I come to Fukui.

An izakaya to enjoy juicy fried chicken in a comfortable space
Gaburi Chicken Fukui Ekimae is an attractive izakaya located in a convenient spot right in front of Fukui Station. In a calm space with only 8 counter seats, the scent of cypress gently spreads, soothing the heart. Upon opening the entrance, I was excited to see decorated bats and baseball goods. The omakase course has a pleasant rhythm to the sushi, and each piece is moist and full of flavor. The beautiful dishes, such as Echizen pottery, are a delight to the eyes as well. The spacious counter allows for a relaxed experience without worrying about the person next to you, and conversations with the craftsmen flow easily. I even received a cute souvenir on my way out, and I felt warm and welcomed until the very end.

A private izakaya to enjoy Japanese creative cuisine
Kuinomoya Wan Fukui Ekimae is a cozy izakaya designed to resemble a traditional Japanese farmhouse, featuring a wealth of private rooms. The extensive drink menu and the delightful service of unlimited salad as an appetizer are highlights. The focus is on Japanese creative cuisine, with original dishes made from seasonal ingredients being particularly popular.
It is easy to walk to from the station, and the spacious area with high ceilings is comfortable. The modern interior incorporating stone is stylish, allowing for a relaxing time. The set salad and soup are visually appealing and provide a satisfying experience. The minestrone has a rich flavor from the ingredients, reflecting the care taken in its preparation. The pasta with mushrooms and salmon is creamy with a rich cheese flavor, and the moderate acidity of the salmon pairs well with the texture of the mushrooms. You can also enjoy classic dishes like carrot rapé, egg mayonnaise, and mackerel and potato terrine, making it a casual place to visit whether alone or in a group.
I went for afternoon tea around March! During this time, the main flavors were citrus and white chocolate. The afternoon tea included unlimited tea, and I was able to enjoy various types of tea from hot to iced!
I went there on the first day it opened!
