Kayaba Coffee

The restaurant offers a modern twist on the classic coffee shop menu. Light fare such as sandwiches, toast, and desserts are available, and quality ingredients are used. Coffee is one major attraction, with several carefully brewed blends. The restaurant retains the old-world atmosphere while adding a modern flavor, making it a favorite of many customers.

The interior of the restaurant is a machiya (townhouse) built in the Taisho era (1912-1926), and while maintaining the beauty of traditional Japanese architecture, modern elements are also incorporated. The warmth of the wood interior creates the atmosphere of an old-fashioned coffee shop, with soothing colors and comfortable lighting. It has many fans as a special place where nostalgia and novelty coexist.

It is housed in a 1916 machiya (townhouse) in Yanaka, Tokyo, which opened as a coffee shop in 1938, closed once in 2006, but reopened in 2009 with strong support from the community. Along with its long history, this coffee shop carries on the traditional Japanese coffee shop culture of the past into the present.

In cooperation with a community organization that was heavily involved in the reopening of the store, he was assigned to serve as the manager. He originally worked in other cafes and dreamed of owning his own store, but an encounter with the town of Yanaka changed his life, and he became passionate about contributing to the community. Through Kayaba Coffee, he has deepened his connection with many people while passing on local culture and taking on new challenges.
