Volume is wonderful. The biggest problem with visiting Jingu Shrine is the food. Of course, it would be nice if it were easy to eat Ise lobster, but it is hard to find a restaurant where you can go on a whim and eat alone after visiting the shrine. So I decided to go here, where there is a store in a deserted shopping street near Uji Yamada Station. The volume of food is quite large, and the price, which I think was 600 yen, is reasonable. In the stores in Okage Yokocho, a bowl of rice or udon with a smaller volume would cost about 1,000 yen. The atmosphere of the restaurant is, to put it better, casual, or, to put it worse, like an untidy friend's house, and it uses a space that was probably taken over from another closed restaurant in the shopping arcade. Most people order the karaage donburi, a bowl of fried chicken topped with rice and egg. It is like the chicken from oyako-don (oyako bowl) but with fried chicken meat, and it is seasoned with pepper like karaage, giving it a slightly strange taste. I think it would have tasted good if you were in high school, but there is nothing special about the karaage itself. The seasoning of Ise is closer to that of Tokai, and as an Osaka native, I find it a bit strong. As for Ise udon, I don't like the way it is eaten and the lack of firmness. I have never eaten it anywhere else, but I have never thought it looked good even when I saw it being eaten at other restaurants, so my evaluation of it is very harsh. If you like Ise udon, the set with a bowl of rice would be quite reasonable, regardless of the taste. If you are going to have an expensive meal in Okage Yokocho, I think this place is good enough.
