An orthodox standing bar This is an orthodox standing bar located near the entrance to Janjan Yokocho, near the row of kushikatsu (skewered pork cutlet) shops. At the L-shaped counter, about 10 people are drinking drinks and ordering entrées as they please. Beer is wonderfully priced, with a large bottle of Kirin lager for 420 yen (I think) and a medium bottle of Heartland for 390 yen. On this day, Heartland, cold tofu (150 yen), and boiled spinach (220 yen) totaled 760 yen. Other dishes were also available for ¥1,000, such as five thick slices of sashimi for ¥420 and a small bowl of cooked food for ¥150. Sake is also served cold with a glass of chirori, and they have a good bottle of junmai (pure rice) on hand. Many of the customers have been drinking in Shinsekai for many years, so there are few strange drunks. I hope that these old-fashioned restaurants will continue to do well in spite of the increase in the number of expensive kushikatsu restaurants that have become tourist attractions. Please note that groups of three or more people are not allowed to enter the restaurant, so please go alone or with two people.
