Masato Owatari, who trained at a number of famous restaurants in Osaka, opened his own restaurant, Gion Owatari, in 2009, and has been awarded one Michelin star in 2012 and two stars in 2018, and his cuisine and hospitality have won accolades from gourmets nationwide. The restaurant is housed in an old private house in Gion, making it one of the most enjoyable places to enjoy Japanese cuisine in a unique Kyoto setting.

[Gion Owatari] Another long time no post. I went to Gion Owatari. I have never laughed so much while eating Japanese cuisine. But the food was also amazing. There were two dishes that surprised me. One was a small soup with fava beans and needle ginger, and the other was a bowl of deep-fried carp and tofu. The soup stock was excellent, but everything was so well blended that the aftertaste was surprisingly refreshing, even though you could really taste the ingredients. It was a moment when I remembered and reconfirmed my own tastes for the first time in a long while while I was enjoying the dishes. I found myself with a folder full of photos of Mr. Ootari! I felt like uploading them... It was such an enjoyable meeting 😁.
