A renowned restaurant where you can savor traditional persimmon leaf sushi

Located at Kintetsu Namba Station, this establishment is famous for its persimmon leaf sushi, cherished for many years. The sushi made with fresh mackerel boasts a perfect balance of moderate saltiness and vinegared rice. Enhanced by the aroma of persimmon leaves, this sushi offers a taste of Japan's traditional flavors. It's a great place to enjoy the essence of pressed sushi, perfect as a travel companion or souvenir.

Since it is located inside the station's ticket gate, I am happy that I can casually stop by before or after using the train. As a long-established shop that has been around for over 160 years, the carefully wrapped persimmon leaf sushi is moist and fragrant, and the flavor of Nara spreads in one bite. The toppings such as mackerel, salmon, and shrimp pair excellently with the vinegared rice, and the sweetness of the shrimp stood out in particular. The grilled mackerel sushi, with a gentle aroma of yuzu, has a plump texture, and the accents of Japanese mustard and sesame are addictive. Thanks to the locally produced Hinohikari rice from Nara and the refined vinegar, the aftertaste is refreshing, making it feel like I could eat as many as I want. There are also boxes available for takeout, so I think it would be well-received as a gift.
