I have been to many Michelin-starred restaurants in Kyoto, but Yamane is not inferior at all. The food is just as good, and the seasonal mountain views from the window make for a relaxing and blissful experience. I was surprised at the size and tenderness of the chicken clams in the sashimi platter. I was impressed with the bowl of fish wrapped in a rice cake made of swordfish and grass. Instead of rice, I had Dojoji steamed rice. I was also impressed by the seasonal flavor of the flatfish with ume plum paste and fu wrapped in an oak leaf. All the other dishes were also delicious and we had a rich time.
