The atmosphere inside the old building was quiet and relaxed, and the food was carefully prepared and healthy. I bought a pound cake as a souvenir, which was also delicious.

A restaurant in Kaizu, Makino Town, Shiga, where you can have a cafe on a terrace where you can enjoy Lake Biwa!
Old tools & cafe Kaizu✨
We had curry with a great view while listening to the murmuring water of Lake Biwa!
Great place for a date night! 😂✨
I want to go back 😭😭😭😭
This was our first visit to Seiyu, which we had wanted to visit for a long time. Everyone in my family loved it. We would definitely visit again. Thank you very much.

The appetizers, in particular, are chef's masterpieces that change with the seasons, showcasing the quality of the ingredients. The interior is bright and stylish, with attentive service that creates a pleasant atmosphere, captivating all who visit. It's a must-visit spot when exploring the beautiful Metasequoia tree-lined road in Koto.
Located along the Metasequoia Avenue in Makino Highland, Hayama Coffee Metasequoia Garden is a café where you can enjoy a special moment in a calm atmosphere. It offers carefully crafted coffee and delicious croffles, with new discoveries waiting for you each time you visit. It's an ideal location to relax while enjoying the scenery. I visited the Kouri-an with deep emotion. It is known as a unique one-house inn because of its relationship with Uoji. The location on the shore of Lake Biwa is superb, and the seating area offers a view of the calm waters of the lake. The woody interior is also beautiful. The food is made with local ingredients, and the funa-zushi (funa-zushi is a type of fermented crucian carp sushi) is especially delicious. It is a pleasure to spend a blissful time at Kouri-an.
Ryori Ryokan Marumo is a hidden gem surrounded by the beautiful nature of Lake Koshoku. Here, you can enjoy exquisite dishes prepared by a young owner who trained at a renowned Japanese restaurant. A wide selection of sake is available, and the local specialty "Takeubushima" is definitely worth trying. Conveniently located as a base for sightseeing around Lake Biwa and ski resorts, it is an attractive ryokan where you can spend heartwarming moments.
Located in Kaizu, Uoji's restaurant is tastefully decorated with the stone masonry remaining on the lakeshore. Founded in 1748, the restaurant has a long history and is well known for its excellent sake pairings. The "funa zushi tomowae," a preserved food made by chopping funa zushi into small pieces and mixing it with rice, is especially recommended. I felt that the sake brewing techniques of the time when Kourian was around might be revived. We visited and supported Uoji-san.
It's exciting to see the cooking process up close in an open kitchen. The fluffy grilled eel is fragrant, and its umami spreads in the mouth. The straw-grilled biwa trout has a subtle aroma and is very refreshing. The shabu-shabu made with rare game such as badger and Asian black bear has a sweet fat, allowing for a rich and mellow flavor. The beautiful dishes used for plating are pleasing to the eye, which is delightful. When paired with local sake, the appeal of the dishes is further enhanced, making it hard to put down the chopsticks.
A dining place with fresh seafood and warm hospitality

Especially the tempura and sashimi not only taste great but also have an enticing aroma that whets the appetite. Why not spend a delightful time in this comfortable Japanese space, perfect for any occasion?
We used the "ryokan" for lunch, but lodging is also available. The food is sourced from a nearby lake fish specialty restaurant called "Uoiwa. The menu includes ayu fish, ice fish, carp, honmoroko, farm-raised eel, funazushi, and even blue neck. Diners can enjoy their meals at a table and have a wonderful view of Lake Biwa from the window. The Kamosuki course includes Aokubi, White Star, Seri, Shiitake, Enoki Mushrooms, and Tofu, and boasts a delicious course meal.
