Dedicated to second-generation winemaker Chad Melville's favorite aunt Sandy, this wine is always incredibly elegant, expressive, and soulful. It's delicate, but not fragile in texture, and really hits the sweet spot in both weight and texture for Pinot Noir. Tasting notes include a baseline of fresh sage, black tea, and dried rose petal tones, which melt into a raspberry hard candy and pomegranate fruit profile.
While Giacosa's Riserva wines command astronomical prices, the more down to earth Nebbiolo d'Alba from the single vineyard Valmaggiore, brings all the familiar flavors for a fraction of the price. Playing in both realms, this wine radiates with both fresh and dried red fruits, purple florals, and earthly finessed finish. Think of it as Pinot Noir that lifted a bunch of weights over the summer and gained 20 pounds of muscle.
Drinking this wine is like walking into an artisanal confectionary, taking a deep breath, then taking a moment to soak up the kaleidoscope of fruit and herb-scented goodness, red currant candy, tarragon, fresh vanilla bean. It's more impressive still that those decadent tones radiate from a wine that maintains an uncanny dry freshness.
Dusty, earthy, and contemplative, with mature aromas of tanned leather and dried herbs… just the style of Rioja that happens to resonate quite nicely with a dry aged steak! It's smooth yet full-bodied and is in the perfect moment of its lifecycle.
Long Shadow's Director of Winemaking, Gilles Nicault, crafts this New World blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. A dark and concentrated wine with gorgeous aromatics. Fresh fig and ripe plum flavors are interwoven with notes of graphite and an alluring earthiness.
Produced from the Peninsula block of the acclaimed Red Willow vineyard, this chewy Cabernet has an intense but subtle nose of red berry jam, dried mint, blond leather, and blonde fresh cigar tobacco. It's definitely a big boy, but with a little air and a great steak is a stunning example of Washington Cabernet Sauvignon.
Owned and operated by Chris Peterson, former winemaker for DeLille, Avennia's wines show the same poise and polish, with a touch more restraint. This wine is built "country strong" like a lumberjack; powerful, with broad shoulders and a squishy midsection. It's dark fruited and serious on the nose, with notes of blackberry jam, vanilla, and a wisp of smoke on the finish.
Jack Wagner, owner of iconic Caymus, has long been an advocate of Napa Valley. When he started making a few wines in the Central Valley's Suisun AVA, we took notice. This blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah delivers blackberry jam, vanilla and toasted marshmallow, a sinfully seductive flavor profile.
