The origin dates back to around 1928. It was a time when Western cuisine (such as cutlets, omelets, and curry) began to flourish. A chef from Komagane stopped by a Western restaurant in Asakusa, Tokyo, where he had a cutlet (which is said to be the origin of tonkatsu) and gained inspiration. Originally, tonkatsu was a Western dish that stemmed from a great misunderstanding by the Japanese, and the wisdom to turn it into a rice bowl is truly remarkable. On top of the rice, shredded cabbage is placed, and freshly fried cutlets are sliced and delicately arranged. That is where the real experience begins. A generous amount of the secret sauce, concocted by each restaurant, is poured over it, and it is eaten while hot. The moment it enters the mouth, the unique taste of the sauce hits with a zing, determined by the hometown flavor, which is the taste of Komagane. The time when you want to eat it is the peak season.
