Mao Crab Tea is produced in Anxi County, the same region as Tieguanyin. The name is said to derive from the shape of the tea leaves and the tea tree. The branches extend sideways, resembling crab legs, and the edges of the tea leaves are jagged with small fine hairs, which evoke the legs of Shanghai crabs. It has a pleasant aroma, with a lingering roasted fragrance and good aftertaste, and is highly regarded as a well-balanced tea among oolong teas.
Compared to regular oolong tea, it is named black oolong tea due to its rich flavor and color, which is attributed to its high polyphenol content. This black oolong tea is a blend of Fujian province oolong tea (Shui Xian variety) and Pu-erh tea, making it a tea that pairs well with Chinese cuisine. By blending mature Pu-erh tea, it contains a higher amount of 'oolong tea polymerized polyphenols' that effectively suppress fat absorption, thereby helping to reduce the rise of neutral fat after meals.
Pu-erh tea is a type of tea that has been fermented through a special process, containing unique components such as pu-erh polyphenols and polymerized catechins. It is also famous as a diet tea. This tea is Tieguanyin made in Taiwan using the traditional method brought from its hometown, Fujian Province. The variety, production method, and roasting are all crafted by skilled artisans following tradition.
