Spirit, sugar, water, and bitters - the ingredients that gave name to the phrase 'cocktail'. An old fashioned specifically got it's name due to the dawn of new drinks coming along and guests requesting 'that old fashioned drink'. You may recognize its style being the same basis of a sazerac. Not all old fashioned's are created equal - our house version is with bourbon but any spirit can work - as long as it is made with a spirit, sugar, water, and bitters - it's an old fashioned. The Recipe: 2 ounces of spirit, 1-2 teaspoons sugar, 3-4 dashes bitters, citrus oil, stirred over medium cubes and strained over large cube. Try Other Old Fashioneds: wild turkey rare breed rye - $19, Appleton 12yr (rum) - $14, oaxaca old fashioned - $14
Spirit. Fortified wine (vermouth). Bitters. Not many drinks have gone through everything the martini has. There are 100+ page books solely on this one iconic cocktail. The martini, part of the same family as the manhattan, can be quite revered as one of the greatest drinks known. Its origin story isn't entirely clear but the Martinez is known to precede it. In the 90's the martini moniker was a comforting one so anything served up was referred to as a martini - creating the spin off bastardizations known today such as the chocolate martini or espresso martini. Our full service is an ode to london style martini service. The recipe depends on your preference of spirt: vermouth ratio, extending anywhere from 1:1 to 10:1. The Recipe: spirit. Dry vermouth. Orange bitters. Kept very cold and garnished with either a citrus expression or olive. Martini Service: our house martini is made with either tanqueray no. 10 or ketel one. We build them ahead of time at a 6:1 ratio and freeze. Comes with a bowl of complementary martini snacks
Irish whiskey. Black coffee. Sugar. Fresh cream. A true irish coffee free of any irish creams sweet liqueurs. The aesthetic of a perfectly black drink with an even layer of freshly whipped cream is hard to beat. Invented sometime in the 1940's the original recipe is: "Cream - Rich as an Irish Brogue, Coffee - Strong as a Friendly Hand, Sugar - Sweet as the tongue of a Rogue, Whiskey - Smooth as the Wit of the Land" . Ours doesn't change too far from that. The Recipe: tullamore d.e.w. irish whiskey, 3 and a half ounces black coffee
Spirit. Sugar. Water. Bitters. The cocktail any New Orleans bartender can make in their sleep. As the tale goes, this old fashioned was made popular thanks to a man named antoine peychaud who ran an apothecary in New Orleans. Peychaud made his 'bitters' or tonic for medicinal purposes. Fortunately for him he wasn't the busiest so he would spike certain spirits with his bitters and sell them down the road at the sazerac house. It was said that the everyday old fashioned was made with brandy or rye whiskey - but the finer or harder to come by spirits like cognac or jamaican rum - antoine kept for himself. Typically spiked and left in the bottle then poured neat. As an ode to the way things could have been done back in the 1800's - our recipe is a blend of a few spirits. The Recipe: 10 parts classic mash rye whiskey, 1 part jamaican pot still rum, 1 part pot still apple brandy, 1 part xo cognac, 1 part sugar, 6 dashes peychauds bitters, 1 dash angostura, let bottle age for at least 30 days and pour into a frozen glass rinsed with absinthe
Vodka. Fresh granny Smith apple juice. Fresh lemon juice. Apple cordial. The Apple Martini was born in Los Angeles in 1997 on a 4th of July weekend. No one drink could have better captured that specific moment in American culture. This was pre-9/11, pre-Recession, and it was fun, eye-catching, and boozy as hell - pure West Hollywood hedonism, a liquid equivalent to the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and Hanson songs on the radio. The appletini is unrepentantly sugary, reminiscent less of an actual apple than of the tangy artificial flavor known as "green." It's originally, and one might argue best, served in a martini glass the size of an Olympic swimming pool. Our version, while inspired by the history that was, is a bit more balanced and has nuances of biting into a fresh green apple. The Recipe: 2 ounces vodka, 1 ounce fresh granny smith apple juice, 1 ounce apple cordial juice, half ounce fresh lemon juice
Citrus vodka. cranberry juice. curacao. fresh lime juice. When Toby Cecchini invented the Cosmopolitan back in 1988, he didn't intend for it to make its way to a cocktail list at all, let alone become a decade-long bastion of urban drinking. "It was always made wrong, and you could tell, because it looked like a Negroni, "says Cecchini. "Nobody was doing the proper amount of lime juice…There was too much cranberry. And still, to this day, people never get it right" . The Recipe: 2 parts of citrus vodka, 1 part cranberry juice cocktail, 1 part fresh lime juice, 1 part cointreau
