Since its establishment in 1919, we have made efforts to maximize the original aroma and flavor of barley with traditional techniques passed down through generations, offering a genuine barley shochu that stands apart from existing barley shochus with its fragrant barley aroma and deep flavor.
It expresses a unique strength and solid body derived from black koji fermentation, with a fragrant aroma and impactful sweetness of Kogane Sengan. The strong aroma and flavor are complemented by a delicate and smooth texture achieved through careful aging, providing a rich drinking experience.
Founded in 1902 (Meiji 35). 'Murao' is famous, but the representative brand is 'Satsuma Chaya'. Both use the golden senkan sweet potato as the main ingredient and are brewed in traditional ceramic pots. The difference lies in the koji rice. Murao uses domestically produced rice, while Satsuma Chaya uses Thai rice. We aim to create shochu that can be enjoyed as a dry and crisp accompaniment to meals. We view spiciness and bitterness as positive elements, striving to make shochu that is not too sweet and does not become tiresome to drink.
