A dish where beef is cooked in an iron pot with leeks, tofu, and other ingredients. It became popular in the Kanto region during the Meiji period of modernization. Unlike sukiyaki, where the meat is first grilled on an iron plate and then sugar and soy sauce are added along with vegetables, which are then cooked in the water released from the vegetables, 'gyunabe' is a hot pot dish where the pot is seasoned from the beginning (it's also fine to add a dipping sauce).
