Rating: JS 94. The 2019 Arthur is joyously fresh and fragrant, with the intricacy and detail of spring blossoms. Here, clarity of flavor and balanced precision are front and center, lifting the pure chardonnay expression effortlessly from the glass. One finds aromatic notes of Anjou pear, green apple blossom, cardamom and coriander. Refinement and elegance follow through on the palate, all wrapped in a very fine texture. Enjoy now, but I expect this Arthur to age beautifully for the next 5-7 years

This dance of vibrancy and intensity carries over to the finish, as honeydew and apricot trail off in silky smoothness

Light, bright yellow. Fine scent of yellow fruits, butter and pear on the nose. Juicy on the palate, elegant with a perfectly integrated barrique note. A wine with very good aging potential and a long-lasting finish. Convinced even at a young age

This unfined and unfiltered merlot was planted in 1995 on a sandy 2 acre site on the Naramata Bench. Destemmed and with five days on the skins, this was basket pressed, fermented and aged in neutral French oak for seven months. This wine is light to medium bodied, with aromas and flavours perfumed cherry, salted cherry, raspberry, scrubby herbs, meadow grasses, are touched with a whisper of smoke and haunting, fine tannins. There's a swell of acidity to carry this to the finish, lingering with dried florals. Light to medium bodied

ABV: 13.9%. The 2007 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a gorgeous inky color. It shows classic Cabernet aromatics of cassis, blackberry liqueur, pipe tobacco and fresh strawberry. It's youthful and very precocious in its aromatic exuberance. The palate is full, plush and mouth-filling with sweet chocolate-like tannins that remain somewhat chalky and point to a long life ahead. On the finish, there is a sweet core of dark fruits like black cherry with a little floral pop on the long and haunting finish. Decanting is probably not necessary due to very light sediment. Enjoy now for a treat, but this wine should continue to improve through 2036

This wine has an inky bluish purple color, a big, sweet kiss of crème de cassis, blackberry, blueberry, and hints of graphite and charcoal. It is floral, full-bodied, with tremendous opulence and richness. It is more approachable than the more structured and muscular 2013, but its is certainly no wimpy wine, given its level of extract and richness. It is another beauty, with the oak well-disguised by the extravagant fruit extract. Drink it over the next 30+ years

My samples were a little closed at first and needed some extra coaxing. Once open, the wine shows the dark fruit and exuberance of this hot vintage in Tuscany

This pretty wine shows precision and focus with a rich, fruit-forward style. The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a shapely Tuscan red with the softness and velvety intensity to pair with a winter meat dish by an open fireplace. The wine glides smoothly over the palate, imparting aromas of black cherry, dried blackberry, plum, toasted spice and crushed flower. This harvest, which came about a week earlier than expected, resulted in a measured and carefully balanced Sangiovese from a generous vintage

A very intense ruby red in color with purple highlights, the wine is immediately and suavely convincing in its aromas and harmonious in its expression of the characteristics of Chianti Classico as a zone. The nose is redolent of licorice, violets, and cherries under spirits together with notes of vanilla, chocolate, and sweet toasty oak, all of excellent intensity and sweet elegance. The 20 year old Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny is a pale tawny color with a touch of brick. On the nose it is a bit spirituous and shows notes of raisins and fruit cake, some hazelnut and crème brulée. The palate shows even more nuttiness and depth along with greater freshness and acidity, though it seems drier than the Father. It finishes very long almost like a sweet oloroso or amontillado

It's youthful and very precocious in its aromatic exuberance. The palate is full, plush and mouth-filling with sweet chocolate-like tannins that remain somewhat chalky and point to a long life ahead. On the finish, there is a sweet core of dark fruits like black cherry with a little floral pop on the long and haunting finish. Decanting is probably not necessary due to very light sediment. A brilliant effort from well-known oenologists Dany and Michel Rolland, the 2009 Bon Pasteur is dominated by Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc included in the blend. It reveals textbook notes of mocha, tobacco leaf, blackberries, black cherries, roasted coffee and wood smoke. Full-bodied and luscious with a succulent, beautifully textured, multidimensional mouthfeel, low acidity and sweet but noticeable tannin, it is reminiscent of the 1982 Bon Pasteur, which continued to put on weight for a decade or more. If the 2009 does the same, it will come close to equaling that legendary vintage

Rating: WE 94 PTS. ABV: 13.5%. This full, fruity wine is packed with acidity as well as ripeness. It has a fresh black-currant character, and the structure underneath is strong

The combination of Monastrell (Mourvèdre) with Shiraz (Syrah) grapes creates a flavour explosion. The black cherry and plum fruit is plenty, and it's all wrapped up in a spicy twist

ABV: 14.5%. This is a corpulent wine also having a lot of finesse, with an intense nose having notes of chocolate, black fruits and vanilla. In the mouth the taste is striking, being predominantly round and silky, very unctuous.Touches of fruits linger in the after taste as do mineral notes. This is a full body wine yet at the same time very easy to drink

Rich, powerful and voluminous on the attack, a huge mouthful of crème-de-cassis concentration, silken and juicy in the mid-palate with excellent length and persistence. Fine, ripe tannins, at once supple and structurally present

Winemaker Alvaro Palacios is one of Spains superstar vintners who also produces the cult wine LErmita. The grapes for this wine are mostly sourced from young vines in the same vineyards that create his second wine, Les Terrasses, which is made only from old vines

The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins, and it feels terribly balanced and beautifully textured. It's elegant more than powerful but full of energy

Made with 80 Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 Cabernet Franc and 10 Merlot, this opens with aromas of black currant, cedar and a whiff of bell pepper. The firm palate delivers black cherry, licorice and white pepper alongside fine-grained tannins

Rating: RP 92 PTS. ABV: 13.5%. A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2019 Guidalberto appeals to the more informal side of sophisticated drinking. By that I mean it makes a great choice at lunch or for family dinners. Despite the accessibility and dense concentration of the fruit, especially evident in a warm vintage such as this, the wine's pedigree is evident in terms of the careful management of the structure and acidity. My samples were a little closed at first and needed some extra coaxing. Once open, the wine shows the dark fruit and exuberance of this hot vintage in Tuscany
