Produced from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sagrantino. Sangiovese grapes are harvested in September while the others in mid-October. A compatible blend that has aged for 12 months in French oak barrels followed by 12 months in bottle. The color is dark ruby red. Aromas of berries, liquorice and spices. In the mouth the wine is full-bodied and with soft tannins. The taste is persistent red berries and notes of pepper, liquorice and chocolate
Carmignano Il Sasso is rich, ample and voluptuous in what is a very representative expression of the year. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice, tobacco and dried herbs develop in the glass, but this is all about fruit intensity and texture

The entry-level 2009 Pruno is predominantly Tempranillo with dollops of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged for 12 months in seasoned French oak. Opaque purple in color, it offers up a brooding bouquet of earthy minerality, Asian spices, incense, and assorted black fruits. Velvety-textured, sweetly-fruited, layered, relatively forward, and lengthy, this seamless effort admirably reveals the strengths of the great 2009 vintage and is a superb value to boot. Drink it over the next 5-6 years
Conundrum Red Blend has a nose that is almost floral, with tones of lavender, dried berries, baking chocolate, bacon bits. Aromas are rich, velvety and wonderfully appealing. Silky round entry with acid to balance and high fruit concentration. The nose leaves no doubt about the seriousness of this wine. The palate is fruit driven both before and after the high tannin middle core. The finish is long, not drying of tannin and beckons a second sip
