The menu only offers nikomi! Basically, if you are seated without saying a word, you will be served a stew (ordinary), so if you want a small size, order it before you sit down. The stew is "beef tendon stew" and the other items are konnyaku, tofu, and a little ginger that is supposed to be used to remove the smell. Although I have heard that the restaurant is less crowded these days than it used to be, private conversation is strictly prohibited in the restaurant, and the soup is poured on a flat plate so that customers can concentrate on eating, which I think may be an attempt to improve customer turnover. The rice comes in three sizes: large, medium, and small. The photo shows the medium size, and I ordered it from the proprietress just as the stew was being served. The rice served from a rice chest is at the right temperature and has a gentle aroma that greatly increases one's appetite. The stewed rice is served in a broth with soy sauce and dashi (Japanese soup stock), which makes the rice go very well. I eat it by default at first, then change the flavor with shichimi (seven spices) on the table, and eat it again. When the rice is about half full, I add the stew to the rice and stir in the tofu. As mentioned above, the seasoning is so good that the rice goes down a treat, but I wanted to try it with sake, so I decided to take home a portion of the stew for the first time (300 yen to cover the extra cost of the container). I tried it at home with canned beer and sake, and while it was delicious, I could not deny that it was slightly inferior to the rice. I was reminded that this dish was made to be eaten with rice, so I had it with rice the next day.

Exploration of a restaurant that refused to be interviewed July 2013 visit. The restaurant has only 9 seats at the counter. Talking is strictly prohibited, and the menu consists only of beef stew, rice, and pickles, so even when the restaurant is crowded, the turnover is quick and the waiting time is short. The photo shows the beef stew with rice and pickles. The beef is stewed slowly, and the ginger accentuates the flavor. The other ingredients are konnyaku and tofu, which for some reason overflow onto the flat plate and are 100% overflowing when served (but I don't particularly care). The restaurant's customary way of eating the stew is to alternate it with rice at first, and when there is only half of it left, pour the stew over the rice and eat it. The waitresses are not the most amiable, but they have a somewhat warm presence, which explains why there are so many repeat customers.

I wanted to eat motsu-ni, so I invited my sister to join us for dinner. We each ordered a medium order of stewed beef and rice. It contained beef ribs, konjak and tofu, and was seasoned with a miso base. It was thick, but the flavor was gentle and tasty, and the rice was very satisfying. The fatty part of the ribs was sweet and deep. The konnyaku had a nice texture and was very tasty.
