In Indonesian cuisine, if you remember words like 'Nasi' for rice, 'Mie' for noodles, 'Daging' for meat, 'Ayam' for chicken, 'Ikan' for fish, 'Udang' for shrimp, 'Goreng' for stir-fry or fry, 'Soto' for soup, you will be able to read the menu and imagine the dishes. The characteristics of Indonesian cuisine include: ○ Influenced by Indian and Chinese cuisines commonly seen in Southeast Asian cuisines. ○ Heavy use of spices (such as chili peppers and garlic) and coconut oil. ○ Among Muslims, chicken or lamb is used instead of pork. ○ Many fried dishes. The staple food is rice. Indonesia is also a soybean-producing region, with foods like 'Tempe,' a fermented soybean product similar to Japanese natto, and tofu called 'Tahu,' as well as 'Tahu Goreng,' a thick fried tofu made from Tahu. There are also many ingredients familiar to Japanese people, such as sweet soy sauce made from fermented soybeans called 'Kecap Manis'.
